Abstract
Implants in the anterior region should be as functionality and aesthetically acceptable as posterior implants. This study examined the success rates and survival rates of an anterior implant according to surgical method. Total 98 patients (53 males, 45 females, mean age 49.47 years) had missing teeth in the anterior region and 148 implants were installed from October 2003 to January 2017. During the mean follow - up period of 244 weeks after prosthesis insertion, clinical and radiologic examinations were performed to evaluate the complications and implant survival rate. Radiographically, marginal bone loss was analyzed. The healing period after implant placement ranged from 0 to 68 weeks and the average healing period was 18.54 weeks. Complications occurred in 25 out of 148 implants. Complications were mainly labial thread exposure, cervical gingival recession, interdental papillary loss, and labial bone loss. Implant osseointegration failure was encountered in 2 cases of placement in the one stage procedure (survival rates: 98.64%). After prosthetic loading, of the 148 implants, 72 had no marginal bone loss and 76 had marginal loss of 1.12 mm. The implant placement in the esthetic region was evaluated clinically. The failure of implant osseointegration was not correlated significantly with the healing period after implant placement. However, due to the failure of osseointegration in the one - stage method, special attention should be paid to implant placement in the anterior esthetic zone.
